This Big Games lesson is from Day #1 of our Clap Your Hands! Stomp Your Feet! VBS:
Laugh! God does great things through unlikely people.
On Monday, we are learning about how we respond to God with laughter and joy, because he does great things through unlikely people. Our memory verse for day #1 is:
Psalm 126:2a, 3: Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy… The LORD has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.
Preschool BIG GAMES:
1. Simon Says: Start off with the teacher leading the kids in a game of Simon says, then allow some of the kids to be the leader. Describe how David, although he was younger and smaller than some of his brothers, went on to become a great leader.
Some thoughts for Simon Says:
- Stick out your tongue
- Jump!
- Hop on one foot
- Touch your Toes
- Touch the ground
- Reach to the Sky
- Touch your nose
- Tap your elbows
If the Leader does not say “Simon Says” and the participant completes the action they should sit down until the next round.
2. Brother, Brother, David: This game should be played just like “Duck, Duck, Goose.” Have all children sit in a large circle. As the leader you should walk around the circle gently tapping each child on the head while saying, “Brother, Brother, David!!” When you pick “David,” the child should chase you back to the empty spot. Allow many different children to have a turn being “DAVID”
Elementary BIG GAMES:
1. Find the Match! Divide the group into 2 teams. Have each team remove their shoes and put them in a giant pile in the middle of the room. The leader should move to the pile and mix the shoes up even more! This makes it more difficult to find their shoes. When the Leader shouts, “GO!” the kids should run to the middle of the room and find their shoes and place them on their feet. The team that finishes first is the winner.
2. Dress Up Relay: Leader should provide a large pile of dress up clothes. They should include pants, shirts, socks, shoes, high heels, necklaces, gloves, and hats. One person from each team runs to their teammate and help them “dress up” in the clothes. Only one item can be placed on the person at a time. The team to add all of the clothes in the pile first is the winner
Supplies Needed: Large bag of clothes, shoes, hats, and jewelry.
