Pastor Daniel Shares 5 Places To Take Your Kids In The Winter + More!

It finally got cold here in Louisville this week, although we’re already expecting temperatures to get back into the 50s and 60s shortly. That’s life in the Ohio Valley — you never know what the weather is going to do. But what do you do, when you and the kids want to get out of the house on those cold, wintry days (or even dreary wet days in warm weather?) Here, in no particular order, are five places the Montgomery family likes to visit: read more

Pastor Daniel Montgomery’s Sermon on Children

Proverbs has much to say about raising children skillfully, and this was the topic of this past Sunday’s sermon at Sojourn.  Though this message is about parenting, it isn’t just for parents.  Raising children is all about passing on wisdom – and we all need more wisdom so the principles are definitely universal. Listen in as Pastor Daniel Montgomery explores raising children according to the Scriptures – why we discipline our kids, how we discipline our kids, and 5 key lessons all kids (and all people) must learn to live skillfully.  Grab the notes here.

A Generation of Wonder

I transcribed these words from Sojourn Teaching Pastor, Daniel Montgomery’s first Old Testament sermon on “Creation.  It is worth hearing again:

Creation is just wonderful.  God’s world is mind-blowing.  We need to be people that step into that wonder and live in that beauty and recognize how beautiful God’s world is.  Next time you enjoy a good conversation, a good meal, a good embrace, or your mind just expands with an amazing idea, recognize that every good and perfect gift comes from the Creator.  It’s his world, and it’s a beautiful, wonderful world.

Monte Swan, in his book Romancing Your Child’s Heart, writes:

Wonder is the essential instrument of the poet, the artist, the scientist, and any other creative thinker.  It incites the mind to organize information, observations, data, and ideas into pattern and form. Continue Reading…

“Jesus Rode Dinosaurs” Contest

If you haven’t had a good laugh yet this week, check out Pastor Daniel’s latest B.C. blog post.  In honor of our teaching pastor, the SojournKids site will be sponsoring a “Jesus Rode Dinosaurs” contest for the remainder of this month.  Here is what you do.

(1) Work with your child (or teenager) and put together an artistic rendering of a Bible character riding a dinosaur.  Maybe it happened.  Maybe it didn’t.

(2) Take a digital picture of your child’s artwork.

(3) If you blog, post the picture in your blog and link here.

OR

(3) If you don’t blog, join the Sojourn Community Church Flickr group and upload your artwork there.

At the end of the month, I’ll display some of the best artwork here, and we’ll give away a Bible storybook for the top artistic rendering.
